It's hard to remember now but there was a time when Tumblr and the rap internet at large was actually a fun place to be, full of creative kids from nowhere in particular creating just to create. Snubnose Frankenstein's first and only tape was one of the more enjoyable things to float across the timeline in those days. Here's what I wrote in a Tumblr post on May 16, 2011: "Rappin ass rappin with an Odd Future disposition, a Madlib attention span and a stack of Chronic instrumentals. Semi-anonymous tumblr tapes are the future of hip hop." Which, I dunno, no comment on the second sentence. Today the tape feels so fucking minor that it's major, with the then-teen hitting longwinded, high-swagger punchlines about Gundam and Jeff Dunham over beats jacked from the likes of Jeezy, MC Lyte and Slum Village instrumentals as if they were all the same damn thing (which was a real statement to make in those days). Frankenstein would go on to produce some of Vince Staples' earliest work and still occasionally pops up with work from his Lousy Human Bastards crew but he's otherwise remained reclusive in the years since. I cannot fault him for this decision. Available in the physical for the first time ever from Lil Fat Tapes.
